We protest against the closure of the Center for Cultural Relations "Caucasian House" and the attempt of the Ministry of Culture to confiscate the building, which the Caucasian House with the help of the supporting European foundations was able to save from destruction, restored and transferred into a hearth of cultural life of multiethnic Georgia, a center of education and peace policy of the Caucasus.
The Caucasian House is not only one local organization or its building. This is a symbol, a vital idea of secure future, an ideal bred from the remote past, which lives in the hearts of all far-sighted Caucasians and comes along the centuries.
We shouldn't stop dreaming and caring about peaceful Caucasia, where people have respect and sympathy for each other, work together and jointly preserve the cultural heritage and common living space;
The Center for Cultural Relations of Georgia - Caucasian House is the organization, which has served this ideal for more than twenty years, despite continuous obstacles that it has faced from various sides.
The Caucasian House has hosted and cared for hundreds of IDP children, worked for their physiological rehabilitation; has raised many adolescents with the spirit of human values of democracy; many have gotten to know and love Caucasia thanks to the Caucasian House.
The Caucasian House is a home for all peace-loving Caucasians and guests that come with peace; this is a place for meetings, talks, knowledge exchange; a real center of creative and social life. This organization has raised the profile of Georgia throughout Caucasia and beyond.
We appeal to the Government of Georgia to accept the proposal of the European Foundation "Horizon" and approve the building on the name of the non-governmental organization Caucasian House, except for the part, where the Smirnov Museum is currently opened. The ransom for this could be offset from the sum paid by the foundation for restoring the building. Otherwise, this sum should be returned to the foundation so that it can acquire a new building for the organization. As it is stated in the agreements signed between the Foundation "Horizon" and the Ministry of Culture in 1998-1999, if this building is transferred to other organizations, the Foundation retains the right to recover the sum (over half a million USD).
We, the citizens who have gathered in the Caucasian House on August 2, 2010, are establishing a union of supporters of the Caucasian House and encourage our adherents to joint. We will spread notifications regarding our short-term plans through media.
August 2, 2010.
